A wow to myself – Breaking a bad habit
Dr. Tara Swart, a neuroscientist, doesn’t read news – at all. I couldn’t do that though I have noticed that certain news makes me feel bad. Today I finally wowed to myself to stop “reading” a certain online tabloid. It was just bad news badly written. Instead, I renewed my subscription to New York Times. No lack of bad news on there either, but at least they are well written.
A Q. for you: Is there a habit you want to break?

‘Strangers’ – Do we ever really know the person we marry?
I recently saw an interview with Belle Burden, a New York attorney. I never heard of her before but her story and graceful way of telling it caught my attention. Ms. Burden recently wrote her first novel, a memoir about her shocking and sudden divorce from her husband, and her subsequent recovery. The book is deeply personal and beautifully written and I highly recommend it. Its main message is to keep your autonomy in a relationship. The book was so well received that Netflix decided to do a Feature Adaption with Gwyneth Paltrow.
A Q. for you: What would it look like to increase autonomy in your life?
See an interview with Belle Burden and Molly Sims ‘Lipstick on a Rim Podcast’.

A Q. for you: If you had extra 30-min daily for your health, how would you spend them?
I highly recommend Yoga with Adriene (in the main picture).

Every now and then, I indulge.
I’m a healthy and even picky eater – just not when I’m traveling. Today, during a 3 hour layover in Frankfurt Main Airport, I had a Frankfurter Würstchen (sausage), a pretzel and Twix. My plan was to eat half of the Frankfurter and avoid all the rest. The plan didn’t work. I love airports.
A Q. for you: Where could you indulge more without guilt?

How to unwind in the evenings.
Novak Djokovic started listening to classical music at an early age as a part of his training regime. I listen to it while doing yoga and as of lately, while getting ready for bed; while writing down to-do lists, packing and just getting ready to wrap up for the day. It calms me down and refocuses my mind. It stops me from overthinking. There is something to it.
A Q. for you: What routine, if any, could make your evenings better?
Listen to Nadine Sierra & Pretty Yende – Delibes: Lakmé / Flower Duet.

Scientific view on oversharing at work.
Barbara Corcoran (real estate business woman) once said that when her broker – a woman, cried at work when she lost a business deal, she lost respect for her. But what if that same woman cried from happiness instead of a lost business deal? Would that make a difference? Crying at work could be a form of oversharing, at least for some. But Harvard researcher Leslie John says that sharing ourselves more freely improves our health and general wellbeing. Next week I’ll be covering the science behind it.
A Q. for you: Do you tend to overshare or under-share in your daily life?

Always choose yourself.
Lori Gottlieb, psychotherapist and a freelance contributor to The New York Times, gave advice to a 26 years old man with a problem: his girlfriend is still connected to her ex. The man called his girlfriend ‘avoidant’ (therapy speech). Lori suggested that he self-reflects and sees what he is avoiding himself. Solid advice but also in some ways ‘avoidant’. So, I went to reader’s comment section and many called the situation for what it is: while the man is asking his girlfriend to choose between him and her ex, he should choose himself and walk away. Make your own life decisions.
A Q. for you: Where could you choose yourself more?
